Financial Early Neutral Evaluation (FENE)

When parties cannot agree on financial issues such as valuation of assets, division of assets and debts, spousal maintenance, and calculation of child support, an FENE can be a helpful process. An FENE is a three hour confidential evaluative process designed to provide feedback on financial issues in dissolution of marriage matters.

An FENE differs from a mediation in that it involves an evaluation of how financial issues might be decided if the matter was presented to a judge in court. This insight often helps the parties move towards a settlement. Often, just having both parties and their attorneys participate in a focused meeting on all financial issues can clarify issues and create an environment conducive to settlement.
